EU SUP
“Absurdly, the new EU SUP Directive defines all chemically modified polymers as plastic, including fried egg, as egg’s polymers are chemically modified during heating. In addition, many ketchups and ice creams contain food additives like Carboxymethylcellulose (E466) that is defined as plastic by the Directive,” says Dr. Suvi Haimi, CEO and Co-Founder of Sulapac.
“Furthermore, the Directive’s definition of plastic can actually be very harmful for innovation of sustainable alternatives,” she continues.
