No persistent microplastics – better for people and the planet

Whether you want to produce the most sustainable lightweight food trays, cups, or ice cream bowls in the market, or you’re after a high-end customer experience in a single-use context, we have the perfect alternative for you.

Sulapac materials are bio-based and industrially compostable, while they can also be chemically recycled. Unlike take-away packaging and tableware made of conventional plastic, they don’t cause long term harm to the ecosystem even if accidentally leaked into the environment. Unlike cups and trays made of cardboard, they need no additional (plastic) coating.

With Sulapac materials you can effectively mass-produce functional food packaging and tableware, that are light-weight or luxurious – and always safe for people and the planet.

Materials for take-away packaging and tableware

Sulapac materials can be used with existing plastic converting machinery enabling a resource efficient transition towards a cleaner future.

SULAPAC FLOW 1.7

Easy to process material with natural look and feel

Sulapac Flow 1.7 has been  developed to tackle the global plastic waste problem by providing a sustainable material for various take-away and packaging applications.

Sulapac Flow 1.7 contains 72% USDA certified bio-based content.1 The material is safe for both people and the planet: it is industrially compostable according to BPI and Seedling and leaves no permanent microplastics or toxic load behind.2,3 The material is EU and FDA food contact compliant.4

The main components are wood from industrial side streams and biodegradable biopolymers. All raw material are sourced according to a strict sustainability policy and the wood originates from non-controversially harvested northern forests. Sulapac Flow 1.7 can be both mechanically and chemically recycled.5

1 USDA Certified Biobased Product label is a certification mark of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

2The compostability has been tested up to the thickness of 910 μm according to BPI (ASTM D6400) and Seedling (EN 13423 & ASTM D6400).

As the compostability is also dependent on the geometry of an item, it is the responsibility of the
manufacturer of the end product to ensure compliance with the regulations.

3Relative biodegradation of 75,5% in 420 days in the marine environment ASTM D6691 (86°F/30°C). Not considered biodegradable in California.

Ecotoxicity and threshold values for heavy metals tested according to EN 13432.

Tested for per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) by an independent laboratory (ISO/IEC 17025 certified) based on CEN/TS 15968 test method; No PFAS compounds were detected.

4Restrictions and specifications of use apply, please refer to relevant Declaration of Compliance for further information.

5Mechanical and chemical recyclability demonstrated by third parties. The infrastructure to enable the recycling of biobased biodegradable materials at scale is still under development.

UNIVERSAL

Natural alternative for existing production lines

Cosmetics, Luxury packaging, Cutlery, Supplements

Replace your traditional plastic material and start mass-producing truly sustainable products with minimal investment. Universal material is designed to fit to existing production lines and moulds. It is suitable for rigid products such as jars and hangers. Technical specification and easy processing instructions are available in the technical datasheet.

Universal material is made of wood from side streams and biodegradable biopolymers. This 100% bio-based material biodegrades without leaving persistent microplastics behind1.

1Biodegradation of 48%–59% in 280 days in the marine environment (30ºC/86ºF) (ASTM D6691). Tested also according to ASTM 5511 (accelerated biodegradation in the landfill, 37ºC/99ºF): 68% relative biodegradation in 160 days. Not considered degradable in California.
