Dr. Laura Tirkkonen-Rajasalo is Co-founder and Director of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs of Sulapac, an internationally awarded material innovation company with the mission to save the world from plastic waste. Tirkkonen-Rajasalo co-founded Sulapac together with Suvi Haimi and Antti Pärssinen in 2016. She has held many titles at the company and today she is the Director of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs.
Tirkkonen-Rajasalo is a biochemist with a Master’s degree in Biochemistry and molecular biology (2010) and PhD in stem cell and tissue engineering (2013) from the University of Tampere in Finland. She has led research and development, innovation implementation and project management at universities in Finland and Switzerland as well as the European Commission.
As experienced research professional, she was the key person in developing the first Sulapac material innovation and patent. She is skilled in leading research and development, and innovation implementation.
Tirkkonen-Rajasalo is passionate about sustainability and global environmental concerns and has worked in nature conservation projects in Swansea (UK) and Nairobi (Kenya).

Tirkkonen-Rajasalo is passionate about sustainability and global environmental issues. When her colleague Dr. Suvi Haimi told her about a business idea of sustainable materials replacing conventional plastics, she was intrigued. Both scientists had been concerned about the ever-growing amounts of plastic waste. They realized that being an entrepreneur was an opportunity to better tackle the global plastic pollution crisis. In 2016, Tirkkonen-Rajasalo, Haimi and Dr. Antti Pärssinen founded Sulapac. Tirkkonen-Rajasalo was the key person in developing the first Sulapac material innovation and patent.
In addition to saving the world from plastic waste, Tirkkonen-Rajasalo has worked in nature
conservation projects in Swansea (Wales) and Nairobi (Kenya).
